American Association of Nurse Practitioners. (2020). 2020 State Policy Priorities*.
In this brief AANP advocates for nurse practitioners (NPs) to practice at the top of license and to have full practice. Only half of states currently allow NPs to evaluate patients, diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and initiate and manage treatment as well as prescribe medication (full practice). This is also recommended by the National Academy of Medicine and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
