The Department of Homeland Security, and professionals from the emergency medical services (EMS) community address the ability and need of the EMS provider who is operating the ambulance to travel to the site of the medical emergency and safely and effectively transport the patient(s) to the hospital. This document summarizes a study and provides promising practices for designing ambulance patient compartments for crashworthiness, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and providing responder safety and performance.
