Puntmann, V., Carerj, M., Wieters, I., et al.. (2021). Outcomes of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Patients Recently Recovered from Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).. (Added 12/23/2020.) JAMA Cardiology. 5(11):1265-1273.
In this original investigation, the authors randomly selected 100 recently recovered COVID-19 patients to examine the cardiovascular effects of the disease. They found cardiac involvement in 78% and myocardial inflammation in 60% of patients. Both complications were “independent of preexisting conditions, severity and overall course of the acute illness, and the time from the original diagnosis.”
