The authors identify populations at greater risk of complications, identify major changes from previous recommendations, describe the mechanism of virus transmission and the clinical signs and symptoms of disease, outline the role of laboratory diagnostics, and provide information on the four approved influenza antiviral agents, including their usage, dosage, adverse events, drug interactions, and possible emergency use authorization.
