Undertriaging older patients can increase the risk of morbidity and mortality. The authors reviewed the literature and found that existing triage protocols may not identify older patients with serious injury. Establishing geriatric specific triage variables and thresholds and developing reference standards can address this challenge and ensure older patients are triaged accurately.
