Rådestad, M., Holmgren, C., Linde Blidegård, E., and Lennquist Montán, K. (2023). Use of Simulation Models when Developing and Testing Hospital Evacuation Plans: A Tool for Improving Emergency Preparedness. Scandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine volume 31 (Article number 43).
The authors found that using a simulation model during a tabletop exercise allowed for a testing of the entire evacuation process, including management, coordination, and communication. They provide photographs and figures of information cards in the article and emphasize the importance of keeping plans simple and intuitive, keeping communications pointed and to a minimum, and setting aside more time to evacuate vulnerable patients.
