This report summarizes findings of laboratory-confirmed cases of Ebola hemorrhagic fever from the first recognized outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo ebolavirus species. The authors identified 43 cases, including 17 deaths, for a case fatality proportion of 40 percent. Commonly reported signs and symptoms included fever, myalgia, headache, abdominal pain, muscle/joint pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and anorexia/weight loss. Just over half reported bleeding. Difficulty swallowing was the only symptom more commonly reported in cases who died. The mean age was also higher (42 years) among those who died than survivors (33 years).
