Ebola Virus Vaccination Elicits Ebola Virus-Specific Immune Responses Without Substantial Cross-Reactivity to Other Filoviruses

Mdluli, T., Wollen-Roberts, S., Merbah, M., et al. (2025). Ebola Virus Vaccination Elicits Ebola Virus-Specific Immune Responses Without Substantial Cross-Reactivity to Other Filoviruses. (Abstract only.) Science Translational Medicine. 17(792).
The authors conducted a systems immunology analysis of immune responses to a combination of an adenovirus-based Ebola virus (EBOV) vaccine and a modified vaccinia Ankara vaccine containing immunogens from several filoviruses administered eight weeks apart. They found the immune response was EBOV glycoprotein specific and there was limited cross-reactivity to other filoviruses. They found the same limited cross-reactivity to other filoviruses in samples from survivors and contacts of a Bundibugyo outbreak.
