Clinical Manifestations and Case Management of Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever Caused by a Newly Identified Virus Strain, Bundibugyo, Uganda, 2007-2008.
PLoS One. 7(12):e52986.
The authors describe clinical manifestations and case management of 26 laboratory-confirmed, hospitalized cases of Ebola haemorrhagic fever caused by the Bundibugyo ebolavirus species. The most commonly reported symptoms were non-bloody diarrhea and severe headache (81% each), asthenia (77%), nausea/vomiting and myalgia (65% each), abdominal pain (62%), dysphagia and appetite loss (58%), and conjunctivitis (50%). The authors found the odds of death doubled for each additional self-reported symptom and increased by 31% for each additional clinically observed symptom. Six of the seven patients with haemorrhagic symptoms died.
