Antitoxin Use in the Prevention and Treatment of Anthrax Disease A Systematic Review

Following a search of eleven databases, the authors abstracted data from twelve publications and two case reports on the use of antitoxins in treatment or prevention of systemic anthrax disease. Though evidence is limited, they concluded adjunctive antitoxin treatment may improve survival, early administration of antitoxin for treatment or postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) may improve survival or chance of infection respectively, and antitoxins may be an alternative for treatment or PEP when antimicrobials are unavailable.
