Ebola Outbreak Response in the DRC with rVSV-ZEBOV-GP Ring Vaccination

The authors studied Ebola virus disease incidence within the first nine days after vaccination to assess the effectiveness of ring vaccination. Because of the lack of an unvaccinated comparison group, the authors could not reliably separate the protective effects of ring vaccination from other control measures. However, they found results reinforced conclusions from the study of an earlier outbreak and suggested that ring vaccination is effective, operationally efficient, dose sparing compared to population vaccination, and practicable for implementation in insecure contexts.
