The American Medical Association Center for Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Response convened an expert working group in 2007 to review published literature, after-action reports from Hurricane Katrina, and related resources to achieve consensus on a set of competencies and related educational framework educators could use when creating lessons for health professionals. The group identified 7 core learning domains, 19 core competencies, and 73 specific competencies targeted at 3 broad health personnel categories.
