The EID Fact Sheets describe 72 agents identified as having an actual or potential risk of transfusion-transmission. The Fact Sheets are intended to inform collection facilities and transfusion services about individual pathogens for which questions may arise and for consideration of a starting point for policy development. They contain an assessment of each disease’s clinical features, possible interventions for blood collection facilities, and the anticipated impact on blood safety. Infectious agents considered include prion diseases, viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and nematodes.
