In this review of using self-administered antibiotics instead of intravenous (IV) drip infusion, the authors found that individuals who had the syringe bolus push had statistically significant shorter hospital stays and improved patient satisfaction, which also saved normal saline. The results can inform IV saline conservation strategies during parenteral fluid shortages.
